SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team will look to break a host of streaks on Monday night at the College of Charleston, as the Spartans will look for their first win in three games, first win against the Cougars in 15 meetings and first win against a Southern Conference opponent since 1996. The Spartans, who enter the game at 2-5, will try to rebound from an 81-66 loss to Georgia Southern on Sunday. The team showed plenty of bright spots in the game, with freshman Oceana Jackson scoring 24 points and adding nine rebounds and fellow post player sophomore Shanea Wyant adding 18 points. The Spartans used a full-court press in the second-half that helped them post seven steals and 11 turnovers. Junior Courtney Bradley added a game-high nine assists, bringing her season average to 5.0 per game. The Cougars, who come into the game 1-4, are coming off a 74-51 win against Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars got 15 points from Brooke Kotcella and 13 points from Tonia Gerty, who also added five assists in the game. Jill Furstenberg is the lone Cougar scoring in double-digits, averaging 10.0 per game. Diedra Jones leads the team, grabbing an average of 5.3 boards per game. Spartan Notables |
