SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Dropping just three games during the entire match, the USC Upstate women's tennis team posted a historic 7-0 win over North Carolina A&T in non-conference action at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon. The win is the Spartans' first dual meet win as a member of the NCAA Division I and evens the team's record at 1-1. North Carolina A&T is now 0-3. Senior Susana Hernandez (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano) posted her 50th career win in the match, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Terika Palmer. She, along with teammate Diana Martinez, is one of just two players in school history to reach the mark. Junior Anna Novo (Caracas, Venezuela/El Angel) and freshman Emilia Milovanovic (Paris, France/CNED) started the match off with an 8-0 win over Winnie Quick and Terika Palmer in No. 1 doubles and senior Diana Martinez (Medellin, Colombia/Nuestra Senora del Rosario) also posted an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles to Destiny Williams and Danielle McCaskill. The third doubles match and the No. 6 singles match were both defaulted to the Spartans. In singles, Milovanovic posted a double-bagel against Williams, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3, Martinez blanked McCaskill, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and junior Vivian Neuenschwander (Arequipa, Peru/Max-Uhle) added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Reyorn Ferguson at No. 6. Hernandez posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Palmer at No. 2 and Novo closed out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Winnie Quick at No. 1. The Spartans will head to crosstown rival Wofford for a match on Thursday at 3 p.m. Results Doubles competition |
