Sam Epsteen, a junior from Corona, California, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Football Offensive Player of the Week. This honor is the first NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year. Sam Epsteen rushed for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 carries in the Peacocks' victory at Northern State. Epsteen's touchdown runs came from 6, 12, and 71 yards. The three touchdowns marked the second time in as many NSIC games that the junior running back was crossed the goal line. Last week, Epsteen ran for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 carries at home against U-Mary. Epsteen currently leads all NSIC running backs in rushing yards/game (134.0), is tied for the most touchdowns (6), and is second among all NSIC players in all purpose yards/game (144.0). Epsteen and the Peacocks will return to Eischeid Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 20, to host the rival Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. The Peacocks and Mustangs have had four close ball games in their short history with Upper Iowa winning the first and last meetings between the two teams. UIU defeated SMSU last season at Upper Iowa's homecoming 39-27. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. in Fayette. |
