Box Score

The Upper Iowa softball team continued play at St. Cloud State in the Husky Dome Invitational. The Peacocks opened the day playing the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Yellow Jackets came into Sunday's contest with a 1-2 record, while the Peacocks took the field with a 1-1 record.

Upper Iowa jumped out to an early one run lead in the top of the first inning. Jessie Gress opened the inning with a bunt single. She then advanced to second on a Stephanie Daubenspeck sacrifice bunt. Gress advanced on a ground out then scored on an errant throw by the first baseman who was trying to catch her at third.

Superior put a run on the board in the bottom of the second and third innings. However, the Peacocks were able to tie it up in the third inning. Nikki Davis walked and was replaced by Julie Woolf to pinch run. Kami Appelt then knocked a single down the left field line and pushed Woolf to second. With runners on first and second, Stefani Schulte was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Freshman Erin Bennek drew a bases-loaded walk to push Woolf across the plate and tie the game, 2-2.

The Yellow Jackets were able to control the Peacock offensive attack over the last four innings and did not allow another run. UW-Superior was able to score the winning run in the fifth when their shortstop scored from second base on a single to center field.

Christy Loan took the loss after tossing six innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Loan retired seven Yellow Jackets via the strikeout. The Peacocks hit the ball well, tallying nine hits in the game; Appelt was the lone UIU player with two hits.
