Minutewomen Fall To Yale, 6-1
March 26, 2008
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale women's tennis team decisively beat UMass today, 6-1. The Bulldogs won all but one of the singles and two out of the three doubles matches. Laura Danai (Holyoke, Mass.) won her fourth-straight singles match (6-3, 6-2) to take the only point on the day for the Minutewomen, but lost what would have been her fourth-straight doubles match. Masha Pozar (Ljubljana, Slovenia) has moved up the career doubles list and is now in a three-way tie for first place with 67 wins with the only doubles win for the Minutewomen on the day. Pozar is tied with Caroline Steele (1994-98) who held the record by herself until Susan Hyams (2000-04) came along. Pozar and her partner Candynce Boney (Las Vegas, Nev.) defeated their No. 1 doubles foe, 8-5 in a hard fought battle. With two home matches coming up this weekend against Holy Cross (March 28th at 7:30 p.m.) and Long Island (March 29 at 12 p.m.), Pozar could potentially break the 10-year record at home. The senior captain came into the spring season just seven behind the leaders. The Minutewomen next return to action against Holy Cross Friday, March, 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Courts. Box Score Doubles Singles
