GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Charles Cox was named the ACC Track Freshman of the Year on Thursday after claiming the 400-meter dash title and posting top five finishes in the 200-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. The Tinton Falls, N.J. native becomes the third Tar Heel to earn the award and second in as many years joining Mateo Sossah who earned the honor a year ago.

Cox set a personal-best in the 400-meter dash finals as he clocked a 45.95 in the finals en route to capturing his first ACC title. The freshman sprinter also turned in a top five performance in the 200-meter dash as he finished fifth in a time of 21.47. The Tinton Falls, N.J. native also saw action in the 4x400-meter relay as he ran the second leg and helped lead the Tar Heels to a third place finish in the event with a time of 3:08.61.
