2008 RHGC Raises Over $240,000
May 4, 2008
The 2008 Reece Holbrook Golf Classic continued the event's phenomenal growth, raising over $240,000 through the combination of a Vince Gill concert, a sold-out golf event, and a well-attended sports memorabilia auction. With four RHGCs now completed, the event has raised nearly $675,000 to fight pediatric cancer. This year's RHGC kicked off with last week's wildly successful concert by Vince Gill. The fun continued Sunday night, as the sports memorabilia auction presented by Roy and Wanda Williams moved into the Smith Center practice gym for the first time. The auction raised nearly $115,000, including such one-of-a-kind gems as golf with Roy Williams, golf with Butch Davis, a signed and framed photo of Michael Jordan kissing Dean Smith on the head at last year's 1982 reunion, and much more. Tomorrow's golf event will be spread across two courses (Chapel Hill Country Club and UNC Finley) and is sold out for the fourth straight year. Check back for Joe Bray's photo galleries from the auction and golf later on TarHeelBlue.com. The 2008 event would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Manish Atma, Michael Beale, Kaye Chase, Woody Durham, Dale Herman, Cynthia Somers, Stephanie Williams, Avery Williams, Roy and Wanda Williams, and of course Jenn and Chad Holbrook and Reece and Cooper Holbrook.
