Yates at Manning Passing Academy
July 11, 2008
North Carolina quarterback T.J. Yates is working this week as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy, held on the campus of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. Yates, who has been throwing regularly for the past several weeks, is serving as a camp counselor along with approximately 30-35 other college QBs. "It's pretty cool," said Yates, a rising sophomore from Marietta, Ga. "I sat right next to Peyton today in our staff meeting. I think it will be a great learning experience." Yates set the single-season school record last year with 2,655 passing yards and completed 59.7 percent of his attempts. He underwent shoulder surgery following the season to repair his labrum and did not participate in spring practice. According to the UNC Sports Medicine staff, Yates is on schedule with his rehab and has been throwing at least three times a week for more than a month. Eli Manning's New York Giants are the reigning Super Bowl champs. His brother, Peyton, won the Super Bowl the previous year with the Indianapolis Colts.
