Tar Heel Golf Team 11th At General Hackler Championship

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team carded a 616 total and is in 11th place after two rounds of the General Hackler Championship played at the TPC of Myrtle Beach. The Tar Heels posted rounds of 306-310. Host Coastal Carolina leads the 15-team field with a 13-over-par 389 total. Freshman Kevin O'Connell, from Cary, N.C., led the Tar Heels with a pair of 77s for a 154 total and is tied for 31st place. Another freshman Henry Zaytoun, from Raleigh, N.C., is one shot back at 155 in a tie for 41st place after posting rounds of 76-79. Barden Berry, a senior from Kinston, N.C., stands in a tie for 57th place with a 157 total with rounds of 77-80. David Holzworth, a sophomore from Chapel Hill, N.C., struggled in the first round with an 86, but rebounded with a two-over-par 74 in the second round for a 160 total to tie for 64th while senior Reed Darsie, from Chapel Hill, carded rounds of 76-85 for a 161 total and is tied for 70th. Dan Obremski of Coastal Carolina fired a three-under 141 with rounds of two-under 70 and one-under 71 to grab the individual lead. Derek Fathauer is four strokes back in second place at 145 after carding rounds of 74-71. Three players are tied for third place at two-over 146 - Tulsa's Nicolas Geyger, Northwestern's Kyle Moore and Augusta State's Henrik Norlander. Duke is in second place in the team race with a 597 total, eight strokes behind Coastal Carolina. Louisville is in third place with a 601 total while Florida State is fourth at 602, and Wake Forest and Lamar are tied for fifth place with 605 totals.
The 54-hole event continues through Monday at the TPC of Myrtle Beach which features a par 72, 6,950-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com. |
