CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Kevin O'Connell, a freshman on North Carolina's golf team, was selected to the PING All-South Region team announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. O'Connell, a 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer from Cary, N.C., was one of 21 players named to the All-South Region team.

O'Connell, this year's ACC Freshman of the Year, has carded seven top-10 and nine top-20 finishes in Carolina's 11 tournaments. O'Connell posted a 71.66 stroke average this year, the low for the team, and was recently selected to participate in this summer's U.S.-Japan matches in Tokyo. He has fired 14 scores under-par, 10 of those in the 60s. In addition, he has posted seven even par scores. O'Connell has been Carolina's top performer in seven of 10 tournaments.
