No. 9 North Carolina Heads To Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD.--The No. 9-ranked University of North Carolina men's lacrosse team will be back in action again this Saturday when the Tar Heels visit historic Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md., to meet the No. 8-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. Both teams will be looking to bounce back from difficult losses last Saturday. Coach John Haus' Tar Heels are 6-2 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference heading into Saturday's game which will have a 2 p.m. opening face-off at Homewood Field. The No. 8-ranked Blue Jays are 3-3 overall. The defending NCAA champion Blue Jays have lost three in a row -- all in overtime against Hofstra, Syracuse and Virginia. Saturday's match will be televised live in the Baltimore media market on WMAR-TV. The game will also be shown tape delayed on ESPNU. Saturday will mark the 37th meeting between North Carolina and Johns Hopkins on the lacrosse field. The teams first met in 1977 when the Blue Jays beat the Tar Heels 16-9 in an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game at Homewood Field. Johns Hopkins leads the all-time series with North Carolina by a 23-13 margin. Last season, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina defeated the Blue Jays 13-10 at Kenan Stadium. It was Carolina's first win over Johns Hopkins since 1994, ending a 13-game Johns Hopkins winning streak in the series. It was also UNC's first win over the Blue Jays in Chapel Hill since 1993.
Carolina's last win over Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field came on April 2, 1994 by an 11-9 score. Current Tar Heel head coach John Haus was an assistant coach for the John Hopkins team that season.
