Tar Heel Women Golfers Tied For Fifth Place At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, LA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team is tied for fifth place after the first round of the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic after firing a 14-over 302 total. Florida State leads the 17-team field with a five-over 293.

Ann Laney, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., led the Tar Heels firing a two-over-par 74 to tie for 11th place. Junior Sydney Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., is one stroke back at 75 in a tie for 15th place. Junior Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., carded a 76 and is tied for 23rd. Kate Thomas, a sophomore from Murwillumbah, Australia, posted a 77 to tie for 38th while Colette Lowe, a senior from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. shot an 81 and is tied for 72nd place.

Laura Crawford from Wake Forest and Whitney Wright from Florida State share the individual lead at two-under 70. Rebecca Kuhn from LSU posted a one-under 71and is in third place while Lauren Doughtie from NC State carded an even par 72 and is in third place. Six players are deadlocked in fifth place at one-over 73.

In the team race, Wake Forest and LSU are tied for second place with 300 totals. Louisville is in third place after posting a 301 and three other teams are tied with the Tar Heels for fifth place at 302 - Alabama, Georgia and Central Florida.

The 54-hole event continues through Sunday and is being played at The University Club, a par 72, 6,511-yard layout. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament on Golfstat.com.
