Carolina Women's Golf In Eighth At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, LA. - After two rounds of play at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic, the University of North Carolina women's golf team is in eighth place, only four strokes behind second-place Alabama. The Tar Heels combined for a team-total 301, one stroke better than Friday's round. Lauren Hunt led the team on Saturday with a 73, while Ann Laney posted her second-straight 74 to move into a tie for 10th.

Atop the leader board is Florida State who will take a 12-stroke lead into Sunday's final round. Alabama is in second, while LSU, Wake Forest, Georgia, and NC State round out the top five. Only four strokes separate second through eighth place.

For the individuals, NC State's Lauren Doughtie is tied for first with Florida State's Caroline Westrup at three-under. Two strokes off the pace is Stephanie Connelly of Central Florida, while LSU's Rebecca Kuhn follows at even-par. Westrup turned in the lowest score of the day at 68.

Like Friday, Laney got off to hot start with a birdie on the first hole. She bogeyed 13 and birdied 14 for the second-straight day as well. One stroke behind Laney is Hunt at five-over. Sydney Crane follows at 10-over, while both Colette Lowe and Kate Thomas are at 12-over. Crane shot 79 on Saturday and is tied for 40th. Lowe improved six strokes from Friday with a 75, while Thomas carded a 79.

Play will conclude Sunday at The University Club with an 18-hole shotgun start slated for 9:30 a.m.
