Carolina Women's Golfers Ninth At Bryan Park National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - The North Carolina women's golf team dropped to ninth place after carding a 314 in the second round of the Bryan National Collegiate. The Tar Heels have a 614 total going into Sunday's final round. Duke held on to the lead over the 18-team field with a 598 total after posting a 304 in the second round. Junior Sydney Crane, led the Tar Heels in the second round firing a three-over-par 75 for a five-over 149 total. Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., is tied for 11th place individually. Junior Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., posted a 79 for a 153 total and is tied for 26th place. Kate Thomas, a sophomore from Murwillumbah, Australia, is two strokes back at 155 after carding an 81 to tie for 41st place. Senior Ann Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., stands at 157 in a tie for 49th place after shooting 79 while freshman Jordan Allyne, from Bellevue, Wash., struggled with an 88 for a 172 total and a tie for 86th place. The Florida Gators are just one stroke behind the Blue Devils in the team race after firing a 301, the low round on Saturday. The Gators have a 599 total which is five strokes ahead of third-place Auburn which has a 604 total. Furman is fourth at 605 while Arkansas and Virginia are tied for fifth at 607. Stacey Lewis of Arkansas fired the lone under-par round of the day, a three-under 69, to grab the individual lead at five-under-par 139. Amanda Blumenherst of Duke and Steffi Kirchmayr of College of Charleston are tied for second place at one-under 143. Jennie Arseneault of Virginia is alone in fourth place at two-over 146 while three players are tied for fifth place with 148 totals - Florida State's Whitney Brummett, Auburn's Cydney Clanton and Florida's Omelia Jouven.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at Bryan Park Golf Course, a par 72, 6,323-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com. |
