Carolina's Sydney Crane Named Women's Golf All-ACC

May 6, 2008

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfer Sydney Crane has been selected to the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team as selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches. This was Crane's first appearance on the team.

Crane, a junior from Jamestown, N.C., has had her most successful semester as a Tar Heel. She has carded three top-25 finishes, including two ties for fifth place, her top collegiate finish. Crane posted scores of 224 to tie for fifth place in both the SJSU Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif., and the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. Crane fired a four-under-par 66, her low round as a Tar Heel, at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational where she tied for 21st place. Crane was slowed last fall by wrist surgery. She was selected to the 2006 and 2007 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Teams.

Joining Carolina's Crane on the 2008 All-ACC squad are: Amanda Blumenherst, Duke; Jennie Lee, Duke; Jennifer Pandolfi, Duke; Alison Whitaker, Duke; Caroline Westrup, Florida State; Kelly Calkin, Maryland; Lauren Doughtie, NC State; Lene Krog, Virginia; Calle Nielson, Virginia; Nannette Hill, Wake Forest; Natalie Sheary, Wake Forest. Duke's Blumenherst was selected the ACC Player of the Year and Wake's Sheary was named the ACC Freshman of the Year. Virginia's Kim Lewellen was selected the ACC Coach of the Year in her first year with the Wahoos.

The Tar Heels return to action this week as they play in the NCAA West Regional this Thursday through Saturday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif.
