CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will play its 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference home opener when it hosts Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Fetzer Field.

The Blue Devils (7-1, 1-0 ACC) are ranked No. 5 in the nation in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. Carolina (6-2, 0-1) is ranked No. 9 by the IWLCA.

Carolina beat Duke in the two teams' last meeting, a 12-11 Tar Heel win in the semifinals of the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Chapel Hill. The Blue Devils have won seven of the last nine meetings in the series, however. Overall, Duke leads the series, 11-8.

Last weekend, Carolina dropped its ACC opener, 16-5, at No. 2 Virginia. On March 1, Duke beat Maryland, 14-13, in Durham.

Saturday's game is worth a point in the Carlyle Cup race, the annual multisport competition between Carolina and Duke. The Tar Heels currently lead the 2007-08 Carlyle Cup standings, 14-3.

Admission to Saturday's game is free.

Members of the Tar Heel team are featured this season on a set of trading cards available at UNC home games at Fetzer Field. Throughout the season, TarHeelBlue.com will make versions of the cards available online in PDF format. This week, junior All-America defender Amber Falcone's card is available for download (above).
