Tar Heels To Host Terps In Home Finale
April 11, 2008
CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will play its final regular season home game of 2008 on Saturday night when it hosts Maryland at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field. The game will mark the final regular-season home game for UNC seniors Amanda Barnes, Meg Freshwater, Jamie Hanssen, Erica LaGrow, Julia Ryan and Britta Williams. Maryland is ranked No. 3 in this week's IWLCA poll and No. 3 by Inside Lacrosse. Carolina is ranked No. 9 in both polls. Carolina (10-3, 2-2 ACC) enters Saturday's game having won two consecutive outings, sweeping a pair of non-conference wins last weekend at Fetzer Field in the Atlantic Coast Conference/American Lacrosse Conference Challenge in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels beat Ohio State, 22-12, last Friday and topped Penn State, 14-9, on Sunday. Maryland also played in the event and beat Penn State, 12-11 in two overtimes, and Ohio State, 21-6. The Terrapins (11-1, 2-1 ACC) have won nine straight contests since losing at Duke on March 1. Maryland has beaten Virginia, 8-5, and Boston College, 23-10, in conference play this spring and still have to play Virginia Tech at home next weekend. Carolina has beaten Duke, 16-14, and Virginia Tech, 16-6, in the ACC this season while losing at Virginia, 16-5, and at Boston College, 5-4.
UNC's Kristen Taylor enters the game on a hot streak, having been named co-ACC Player of the Week on Monday after tallying 11 points (10 goals and one assist) in last weekend's two victories. Taylor had six goals and an assist in the win over Ohio State and scored four times on Sunday against the Nittany Lions. |
