Four Tar Heels Earn All-Region Awards From NSCAA

KANSAS CITY, MO. - Four members of the University of North Carolina's 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season and tournament champion women's soccer team head the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Southeast Region Team. UNC had four players named first-team All-Southeast Region by the NSCAA, the most of any school. The Carolina selections were headed by senior defender Jessica Maxwell of Colleyville, Texas, one of three starters UNC will lose off its 2007 team which finished 19-4-1 overall and 9-1-0 in the ACC. Carolina's other first-team All-Southeast selections were sophomore forward Casey Nogueira, sophomore midfielder Tobin Heath and junior midfielder Yael Averbuch. UNC will return eight starters for the 2008 season. Carolina has won 19 of the past 21 ACC championships and 19 of the past 27 national championships in women's soccer. Only three schools have won ACC championships in history (UNC, NC State and Virginia) and only seven schools have claimed national titles (UNC, George Mason, Notre Dame, Florida, Santa Clara, Portland, USC).
