PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. --- Juniors Sanaz Marand and Katrina Tsang won their opening match in the doubles qualifying draw Tuesday at the Riviera/ITA Women's All American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club. The No. 21-ranked tandem defeated No. 39 Cosmina Ciobanu and Colleen Rielley of Notre Dame in impressive fashion, 8-2. Marand and Tsang will face No. 30 Amanda McDowell and Irina Falconi of Georgia Tech Wednesday.

Senior Austin Smith was also in action Tuesday, playing in the singles qualifying draw. The Hilton Head Island, S.C., product fell to No. 26 Danielle Steinberg of Arizona in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Smith will compete in the consolation bracket beginning Wednesday.
