Las Vegas - The wind came with a furry but despite this there was stand out performances for UNLV with the opening to the outdoor season at the UNLV collegiate classic at Myron Partridge/ Sheila Tarr-Smith Stadium.

As the host team for the event the student-athletes did exactly what they were suppose to do, which is log some strong performances. Monique Humphries started off the day in the hammer throw which she placed first in with a distance 163'5" just shy of her school record of 165'7". Olivia Raya took second in the same event with a distance of 156-11 which is her all time best.

Lauren Johnson had a strong opening to the outdoor season coming in first in both the 100 with a time of 12.00 seconds and in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.57. Charlotte Browning won the 800m in 2:12.16. Brittney Bullocks won 400m in 56.47. "We are so pleased with how the team opened up the outdoor season. We are taking another step forward in the right direction," says Yvonne Scott-Williams.

Another notable performance was the 4X100 meter relay team which consisted of Lawson, Bullocks, Kristen Johnson, L. Johnson. The team ran 46.03 which is half a second off NCAA regional qualifying mark. Overall Scott- Williams was please with the outcome of the first track meet put on by the current staff.

"Our goal is to host some high caliber meets in the future and I think this meet showed that we are capable of getting it done. I would like to extend thanks to the teams that came out and especially the great officials and volunteers that helped make this meet run so smoothly".
 

 

The next event for the Rebels is the Aztec Invitational next Saturday in San Diego.
