DES MOINES, Iowa -- Jasmine Jennings and Sarah Thornton both competed in today's preliminary rounds of the women's hammer throw at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held at Drake University.

Jennings, who earned an automatic qualifier after capturing the 2008 NCAA East Regional hammer title on May 31, finished 26th in the opening flight at the national championship meet. The senior fouled on her first two attempts, before getting a legal mark of 182-05 in.

Thornton did not register an official mark, as the senior fouled on each of her attempts. She finished eighth overall at the NCAA East Regional and earned an at-large invitation into the field of the hammer throw.

It was the first trip to the NCAA Championship for both Rhody student-athletes.
