Tumua Anae of the women's water polo team and Abdullah Magdas of the men's tennis team were named USC's Wells Fargo Student-Athletes of the Week today (May 12) for the week of May 5-11.
The sophomore goalie Anae helped lead the USC women's water polo team to the NCAA Championship game with wins over Michigan (12-3) and Stanford (10-6), before falling to UCLA in the title match (6-3). Anae had four saves vs. Michigan and 11 saves vs. Stanford to help the Trojans reach the finals. She added eight saves in the title game and was named NCAA All-Tournament First Team.
The junior Magdas helped lead the USC men's tennis team into the NCAA Round of 16 with singles wins vs. Southern and California as well as a doubles win vs. the Bears in USC's 4-0 sweeps. In the match vs. Cal, Magdas teammed with Gary Sacks to win their doubles match at 8-4 and clinch the doubles point for USC, then went on to register the Trojans' first singles point with a 6-3, 6-0 win. In the win vs. Southern, Magdas' 6-0, 6-1 singles victory clinched the match.
