Trojans Strong In First-Day Action At Tyson Invitational & Husky Classic

    Kendall Ellis won the women's 400m invitational race, Kyra Constantine won the women's 400m college race and Ricky Morgan bettered his school record in the 400m at the Tyson Invitational held at the Randal Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Ark. today (Feb. 10), while Nathan Bultman took third in the weight throw at the Husky Classic held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. today.

    At the Tyson Invitational

    Kendall Ellis won the women's 400m invitational race with a time of 52.13. Placing second by winning the first heat and setting a big PR was Cameron Pettigrew with a time of 52.45. Pettigrew moved from sixth to third on USC's all-time list in the event. Iuel placed third in her heat and sixth overall with a time of 52.92.

    Kyra Constantine won the 10th and final heat of the women's 400m race with a PR of 53.83. She was the overall winner by .002 seconds over Kymber Payne of LSU (53.827 to 53.829). Constantine's time tied a Canadian Junior indoor 400m record set by Christian Brennan in 2014. Kennedy Gillian got things started for USC in Arkansas by winning the first heat of the women's 400m dash with a PR of 56.25. She finished 29th overall.

    Ricky Morgan Jr. ran a PR and bettered his school record with a time of 46.41 to place fifth in the men's 400m invitational race.

    Zyaire Clemes took second in his heat and 10th overall with a time of 47.01 in the men's 400m race.

    Courtney Corrin had a best jump of 19-4.75 (5.91m) to place ninth in the women's long jump. Madisen Richards took 12th with a best leap of 18-10.75 (5.76m) and Lyndsey Lopes finished 18th with a PR of 18-8.50 (5.70m).

    Deanna Hill placed fifth with a time of 7.28 and Ky Westbrook seventh with a time of 7.32 in the women's 60m dash finals. Hill reached the finals with a PR of 7.26 in the prelims which moved her from fifth to third on USC's all-time list. Westbrook also ran 7.32 in the prelims to qualify seventh, while Hill qualified third. Destinee Brown had to advance out of the 60m qualifying round, which she did with a time of 7.46, then ran a season-best 7.43 in the prelims to finish 16th overall.

    Just'N Thymes matched his PR with a time of 6.70 in the men's 60m dash qualifying round to advance to the prelims, while Alexander Barnum had a PR of 6.86 which tied him for 10th on USC's all-time list and advanced him to the prelims. Barnum had a time of 6.88 in the prelims to finish 25th overall. Thymes had a PR of 6.69 in the prelims to advance to the finals in fifth, but was held out of it as he will compete in the 200m and 4x400m tomorrow.

    Dominic Smallwood placed ninth in the men's long jump competition with a best jump of 23-9.00 (7.24m). He qualified for the finals, but did not jump as he will compete in the triple jump tomorrow.

    Dior Hall placed fourth (8.08) and Anna Cockrell fifth (PR of 8.13) in the women's 60m hurdles final. Hall ran 8.20 and Cockrell 8.21 in the prelims. Jasmyne Graham ran 8.26 in the prelims and finished ninth, one spot out of advancing to the finals.

    • Marquis Morris took fifth in the men's 60m hurdles final with a time of 7.84. He ran 7.87 to advance out of the prelims.

    Margaux Jones took sixth in the women's invitational long jump with her best mark of 20-6.50 (6.26m) coming in her final attempt. She advanced to the finals ninth with a best jump of 19-10.75, then jumped over 20 feet in all three finals attempts.

    At the Husky Classic

    Nathan Bultman competed in the weight throw for the first time and seemed to be a natural. He took third overall, second among collegians with a mark of 63-6.00 (19.53m). That mark ranks second all-time by a Trojan. David Sellens placed 11th in the event with a mark of 55-5.00 (16.89m).
