Trojans Close Out Aztec Invitational With A Pair Of Wins

    Vanessa Jones won her first 400m race of the season today, taking the title with a time of 53.29 at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif.

    Sophomore Alexis Faulknor won the women's long jump and placed second in the 200m dash and junior Vanessa Jones won the women's 400m race to lead the Trojans on the final day of the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. today (March 29).

    Faulknor claimed the long jump invitational title with a leap of 20-3.75/6.19m (-0.4) in her fifth attempt to edge Chantell Malone (unattached) who jumped 20-2.50. She jumped over six meters in three of her attempts and her mark matched the eigth-best long jump by a college female entering action this weekend.

    Faulknor also placed second in the women's 200m dash invitational with a time of 23.57 (+1.9). Entering this week's action, that time would rank tied for sixth in the country. Senior Loudia Laarman finished ninth with a time of 24.05 (+1.9), sophomore Jaide Stepter placed 10th with a time of 24.08 (+1.9) and Jones placed 11th with a time of 24.14 (+1.9).

    Jones ran her first 400m race of the season and won the women's 400m run invitational with a time of 53.29 which would rank fourth in the country entering this week. Right behind her in second place with a season-best time was senior Ashley Liverpool with a time of 53.58 which would rank sixth in the country. Freshman Cameron Pettigrew finished 10th with a time of 56.18.

    Senior Lauren Blackburn had another good early-season race in the 100m HH, taking third with a time of 13.40 (+0.8). Junior Melia Cox was fifth with a time of 13.92 (+0.8). Junior Allen Williams placed fourth in the men's 110m HH with a time of 14.93 (+0.6).



    Williams also placed fifth in the men's triple jump with a best jump of 46-2.50/14.08m (-2.4).

    Junior Davonte Stewart placed second in the men's 200m dash invitational with a time of 21.18 (+1.0) and freshman Alex Rohani placed 12th with a time of 22.01 (+3.2w). Junior Myles Andrews ran in the men's 800m invitational race and placed seventh with a time of 1:52.17.

    Senior Doug Bogie was the only Trojan to compete in the men's high jump and he placed eighth with a clearance of 6-4.75/1.95m.
