Trojans Open Triton Invitational With A Light Day Of Action|

Tera Novy placed fifth in the women’s invitational discus throw competition during a light day of action for the Trojans on the first day of the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif. today (April 22).
The senior Novy again had another strong day in the discus throw placing fifth in the women’s invitational discus throw competition with a best mark of 196-10 (59.99m). She also had a throw of 194-4 (59.23m) in her series. Novy now has thrown at least 196-6 in three of her last four meets and only one collegian has thrown 196 feet or more this season and that is Wisconsin redshirt senior Kelsey Card, who threw 203-9 (62.10m) to place third in today’s competition. Novy now ranks second in the discus throw among collegians with a best throw of 200-5 (61.10m).
The first event of the day was the women’s hammer throw invitational and redshirt junior Erika Peyton placed 15th with a best throw of 183-9 (56.00m). That came in her second attempt and she did not advance to the finals. Junior Tanya Sapa also competed in the women’s hammer throw and placed 21st with a best mark of 172-4 (52.52m). Former Trojan Jade Grace placed fourth with a best throw of 198-5.
