Brittany Mann had a personal best to win the women’s hammer throw and David Sellens took second in the men’s hammer throw to kick-off the annual USC-UCLA Dual Meet at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. today (April 29). The USC women lead 8-1 and the men trail 6-3 after one event with the remaining 18 events per gender of the 2017 Dual Meet to take place tomorrow at Loker Stadium on the USC campus. The first field event begins at 11 a.m. and the first running event is scheduled for noon. The meet will also air live on the Pac-12 Network from 1-3 p.m.
Mann had fouls in her first three attempts, but her fourth throw went for a PR of 193-5 (58.95m) to win the event easily. Her mark bumped her teammate Tanya Sapa into second place, who had taken the lead with a throw of 173-1 (52.77) in the third round. Sapa improved twice from that mark, finishing with a season-best throw of 179-0 (54.66m). Together they scored eight points in the team competition.

Sellens improved to 181-7 (55.34m) in the second round, but fouled in his final four throws to finish second. Jason Kim had a slight PR of 156-2 (47.61m) to finish fifth, with only five feet separating the third-fifth-place finishers for the final point.
