Cunningham and Blockburger Earn USTFCCCA Regional Awards

    Randall Cunningham was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Year and Sheldon Blockburger the Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the West Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) it was announced today (March 6). Award winners for the nine regions were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches prior to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held March 10-11 in College Station, Texas.

    Cunningham won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) men’s high jump title with a meet-record clearance of 7-5.25 (2.27m) on Feb. 25. He was named the MPSF Men’s Athlete of the Meet for his accomplishment. The reigning NCAA outdoor high jump champion’s jump was also an indoor PR and is the top jump by a collegian this season.

    Blockburger coached Cunningham to the MPSF high jump title, as well as guiding Dominic Smallwood to the MPSF triple jump title and to a second-place finish in the long jump. Smallwood had PRs of 51-0.75 (15.56m) in the triple jump and 25-2.00 (7.67m) in the long jump. Cunningham ranks second all-time by a Trojan in the high jump indoors and Smallwood ranks eighth in both the triple jump and long jump.
