Smith Gilbert Named West Region Women's Head Coach Of The Year

    USC's first-year Director of Track & Field Caryl Smith Gilbert was named the West Region Women's Head Coach of the Year for the indoor season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today (March 10).

    Smith Gilbert guided the USC women's track team to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Indoor Track & Field title on March 1, with her team winning five individual championships and finishing with 106 points, 25 more than second place Arizona. Trojans winning individual titles at the MPSF Championships were Jessica Davis in the 60m and 200m dashes, Lauren Blackburn in the 60m HH, Akawkaw Ndipagbor in the 400m and Oluwakemi Olonade in the triple jump.

    Smith Gilbert's athletes have been setting personal bests all indoor season and both the USC women's and men's teams will compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.

    Smith Gilbert was also named the MPSF Women's Coach of the Year on March 5.
