April 11, 2017
USC junior Kendall Ellis was named the Pac-12 Track & Field Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and senior Eric Sloan was named the conference’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 3-9 it was announced today (April 11).
Ellis (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won the 400-meter dash at the Battle on the Bayou on April 8 with a meet-record time of 50.98. Her time is the collegiate leader and moves her from sixth to second on USC’s all-time list in the event. It is an impressive early-season time as it would have taken third at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Sloan (Stockton, Calif.) won the men’s long jump at the Battle on the Bayou with a legal jump of 25-4.50/7.73m (+1.2). He won the event by nearly a foot and now has the top two long jumps in the conference, having posted a 25-7.50/7.81m mark last week, which ranks fifth in the country.
It is the second Pac-12 Track Athlete of the Week honor for Ellis (April 13, 2015) and the first for Sloan. They become the fifth USC athletes to win Pac-12 T&F Athlete of the Week Awards this season, joining Nick Ponzio (March 21) and Deanna Hill (March 28) and Just’N Thymes (April 4).
