Jumpers Jones & Sloan Named Pac-12 T&F Field Athletes Of The Week|

USC sophomore Margaux Jones was named Pac-12 T&F Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and senior Eric Sloan was named the conference’s Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 10-16 it was announced today (April 18).
Jones (Redlands, Calif.) was the top collegiate finisher and third overall out of 73 athletes in the long jump at the Beach Invitational on April 15 with a season-best jump of 20-8.50/6.31m (+0.0). Only 2016 Olympian and 2015 Pan American Games gold medalist Christabel Nettey and former Pac-12 champion Kylie Price edged her in the competition. Jones now has the top jump in the conference this season by six inches and ranks 15th nationally.
Sloan (Stockton, Calif.) repeats as Pac-12 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the men’s triple jump at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach with a best leap of 53-10.50/16.42m (+1.7). That jump moves him from seventh to fifth on USC’s all-time list, ranks second among all collegians this season, and is the best jump by a Pac-12 athlete by more than two feet. Taking second in the event was 2016 Olympian Chris Bernard and third was Omar Craddock, former U.S. triple jump champion. Sloan now has the top long jump and triple jump in the Pac-12 this season.
It is the second consecutive and career Pac-12 T&F Athlete of the Week honor for Sloan and the first for Jones. The Trojans have earned seven Pac-12 T&F Athlete of the Week Awards this season: Nick Ponzio (March 21), Deanna Hill (March 28), Just’N Thymes (April 4), Kendall Ellis (April 11), Eric Sloan (April 11 and April 18) and Margaux Jones (April 18).
