NORMAN SETS USC FRESHMAN RECORD -- Only one race into his USC outdoor track and field career Michael Norman has a record. He set the USC freshman 400m record with a winning time of 45.22 at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 30. Norman broke Josh Mance's record of 45.29 set in 2011. Norman's time is the best in the Pac-12 this season and sixth nationally.
EN FUEGO DUO -- Sophomore Christian Sourapas and freshman Alexander Barnum are running the best races of their careers and providing some much needed depth for the Trojans in the sprints, especially at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 30 with sprinters J.T. Brock and Just'N Thymes sitting out the sprint races. Sourapas, a transfer from Oregon, won the Dual Meet 200m with a PR of 20.63 (+0.9) and took third in the 100m with a PR of 10.37 (+0.9). Barnum took third in the 200m with a PR of 21.06 and took second in the 100m with a PR of 10.32. Barnum now ranks fourth and Sourapas fifth in the 100m dash among conference runners. Also, Sourapas ranks second in the 200m among Pac-12 runners and Barnum ranks ninth.
IUEL BREAKS HER NORWEGIAN RECORD -- Amalie Iuel opened up her 2017 hurdling campaign with a PR of 55.38 to win the Battle of the Bayou on April 8. That time is the collegiate leader, third all-time by a Trojan and broke her Norway national record (55.79) set last year.
COCKRELL HURDLES INTO USC TOP 10 LISTS -- It didn't take long for freshman hurdler Anna Cockrell to break into USC's top 10 lists. In her first collegiate 400m hurdles race at LSU on April 8, she took second to teammate Amalie Iuel (55.38) with a time of 55.51. That is the second-fastest time in the country currently and fourth-fastest all-time by a Trojan. It also set the USC freshman record, topping the previous record of 56.49 set by 2016 Olympic gold medalist Dalilah Muhammad in 2009. Cockrell also placed third in the 100m hurdles at the meet with a time of 13.18 (+0.3) which moved her into ninth on the USC 100m hurdles list. She then ran 12.91 (+1.1) to win at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet and move into fifth on USC's all-time list.
