Sloan Named West Region Men's Field Athlete Of The Year

    USC redshirt junior Eric Sloan was named the West Region Men’s Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) it was announced on June 4.

    Sloan ranks first nationally in the triple jump with a mark of 55-6.25 (16.92m) which he jumped on May 27 in Austin, Texas to break the West Preliminary Rounds record. His jump also moved him from fifth to third on USC’s all-time triple jump list. Sloan also had a wind-aided personal-best long jump of 26-4.25 (8.03m) at the West Preliminary Rounds on May 25 which puts him fifth nationally in the event.

    Sloan was 2017 Pac-12 champion in the triple jump and placed third in the long jump. His wind-legal best long jump this season is 25-9.25 (7.85m) which ranks 10th on USC’s all-time list.

    Sloan will compete in both events at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. which begin on June 7. Sloan will compete in the long jump on June 7 and in the triple jump on June 9.
