14 Trojans Named To Pac-12 All-Academic Teams|

First-team selections Nick Ponzio and David Sellens highlight a group of 14 USC student-athletes named 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic for the track and field season it was announced by Commissioner Larry Scott today (June 16). To be selected, an athlete must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically, be a significant contributor and have completed at least one full academic year at the institutions.
The redshirt junior Ponzio maintains a 3.67 grade-point average (GPA) in Psychology. Ponzio was a 2017 shot put All-American, finishing sixth at the just concluded NCAA Championships with a mark of 64-1 (19.53m). That throw matched his career best and ranks sixth on USC’s all-time shot put list. Ponzio also placed second in the shot put at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships with a mark of 63-10.50 (19.47m).
Sellens, also a redshirt junior, graduated this year with a degree in Sociology. He had a 3.69 GPA and was USC’s top hammer thrower this season with a best mark of 196-4 (59.85m). Sellens placed ninth in the hammer throw at the 2017 Pac-12 Championships with a throw of 187-5 (57.12m).
Trojans that were named Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention were: Mitchell Cameron, Kendall Ellis, Amber Gore, Deanna Hill, Margaux Jones, Matthew Katnik, Jason Kim, Lauren Maurer, Cameron Pettigrew, Madisen Richards, Madison Ricks, Trent Rule.
