Busy Summer Set To Begin For USC Track & Field

    USC’s current track and field athletes will be busy this summer in preparation for the Olympics and IAAF World U20 Championships.

    Beginning this weekend USC will have athletes competing at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Clovis, Calif. from June 24-26, Tynia Gaither will be running at the Bahamas Nationals from June 24-25 and Amalie Iuel will be running a 400m at Bislett Stadium in Oslo, Norway on June 24.

    Current Trojans that will compete at the USA Juniors are Nathan Bultman (shot put, hammer throw, discus throw), Jasmyne Graham (100m HH), Margaux Jones (long jump), Lyndsey Lopes (heptathlon) and Mikaela Smith (800m). In addition, incoming freshmen Anna Cockrell (100m HH, 400m IH) and Michael Norman (200m) will be competing. If any Trojan makes Team USA (top two in an event), they would compete at the IAAF World U20 Championships to be held from July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

    Gaither is entered in the Bahamas Nationals (BAAA Nationals) in the 100m and 200m dashes. She will also run with the Bahamas’ 4x100m relay team at the British Virgin Isles Championships on July 2-3, as the Bahamas tries to qualify for the Olympics in that event.

    Iuel begins her action by running a 400m race at Bislett Stadium in Oslo, Norway on June 24, to help her qualify for the Norwegian 4x400m relay team. She will also compete at the European Championships in the 400m IH and the 4x400m relay at the European Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands from July 6-10 and then the Norwegian Nationals in early August.



    The U.S. Olympic Trials will be held July 1-10 in Eugene, Ore. and the Trojans currently qualified are 2016 NCAA champion Randall Cunningham (high jump), Alexis Faulknor (100m, 200m, long jump), Deanna Hill (100m, 200m), Adoree’ Jackson (long jump), Ricky Morgan (400m), Tera Novy (discus throw), Eric Sloan (triple jump) and Jaide Stepter (400m, 400m IH).

    In addition to that, Hill, Novy, Stepter and Sloan have already been selected to represent the U.S. on the U23 team at the NACAC U23 Championships (North America, Central America, Caribbean Athletic Association Championships) in San Salvador, El Salvador from July 15-17.

    There will also be many former Trojan athletes in action at the U.S. Olympic Trials which will include among others Aleec Harris, BeeJay Lee, Conor McCullough, Duane Solomon, Jesse Williams, Nia Ali, Ginnie Crawford and Dalilah Muhammad.
