WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Trojans came out on top of a back-and-forth battle in game two of the series at Wake Forest, defeating the host Demon Deacons 15-9 on Saturday evening at David F. Couch Ballpark.

The game saw a combined 24 runs scored on 20 hits, as the Trojans (5-1) tallied their 15 run on just 10 hits, taking advantage of some Demon Deacon (3-4) miscues along the way. Every Trojan starter reached base at least once, led by Adalberto Carrillo (Santa Ana, Calif./Tustin HS), who was 2-for-5 with a career high five RBIs, four coming on his first career grand slam.

The Trojan pitching staff held things down, as starter Brad Wegman (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak HS) went 4.1 innings, before giving way to Quentin Longrie (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra HS), who was solid in 2.2 innings, earning the win, before giving way to freshman Chris Clarke (Westlake Village, Calif./Newbury Park HS) who shored things up in the final two innings.

The Trojans got on the board first, with Lars Nootbaar (El Segundo, Calif./El Segundo HS) launching a solo home run with two down.

Trojan starter Wegman, put up a zero in the first, but in the second a leadoff single and two walks came around to hurt the junior, as Johnny Aiello came through with a bases-clearing double to take the lead, 3-1.

The Trojans answered right back, however, touching up Demon Deacon starter Connor Johnstone for five runs in the top of the third inning. The Trojans batted around in the inning, tallying their five runs on three hits, with RBIs from a Frankie Rios (Lakewood, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) double (two RBIs) and a Brady Shockey (Irvine, Calif./JSerra HS) groundout. After walking a batter and hitting another to load the bases, Drew Loepprich entered in relief of Johnstone. Adalberto Carrillo (Santa Ana, Calif./Tustin HS) started his hot day with an RBI single off Loepprich's first pitch of the day. Catcher Cris Perez (Miami, Fla./Duke) drew a bases loaded walk to give the Trojans their fifth run of the innings, a 6-3 lead.

The Trojans saw that lead evaporate as the Demon Deacons touched up starter Wegman and reliever Quentin Longrie (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra HS) on a three-run home run by Ben Breazeale after Longrie nearly got out of a two on, one out inherited situation.

With the game tied up 6-6, the Trojans wasted no time answering back, tallying six runs on three hits after a fielding error by the shortstop with two outs extended the inning. Carrillo took advantage of the extra at-bats after the fielding error, cranking his first career grand slam, representing four of the six runs scored in the inning as the Trojans doubled their run total in the inning, 12-6.

Wake Forest was not going to go quietly, however, and they added two more runs in the seventh inning to make it a 12-8 ballgame.

In the eighth inning, the Trojans took advantage of more Demon Deacon miscues, as Brandon Perez (Newport Beach, Calif./Mater Dei HS) reached on a throwing error by the second baseman, and taking second on the throw into the dugout. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored a balk to make it 13-8. Then Tyler Pritchard (Lake Elsinore, Calif./Temescal Valley HS), who pinch ran for Dillon Paulson (Encinitas, Calif./Rancho Santa Fe HS), stole second and third base before scoring on the second balk of the inning to make it 14-8. Corey Dempster (South Pasadena, Calif./Loyola HS) then doubled in the final run of the day to make it 15-8.

The Demon Deacons added one more in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Gavin Sheets, before reliever Chris Clarke shored things up to get out of his inning and threw a zero in the ninth to preserve the win.

The Trojans and Demon Deacons are set for the rubber match tomorrow (Sunday) at 1 p.m. ET.
