Trojans Drop Game One of Series at No. 11 TCU 8-3|

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Trojans worked to tie the game up on a two-out double by AJ Ramirez in the top of the seventh, but No. 11 TCU answered with runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to take game one of the series 8-3 at Lupton Stadium on Friday evening.
The Trojans (6-6) jumped out to a 1-0 lead as they scored on a passed ball in the top of the first inning, but the Horned Frogs (11-2) answered with two in the bottom of the second and added one more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
The Trojans had multiple opportunities throughout the first six frames, but were unable to come up with that big hit, stranding a total of 10 base runners in the game.
However, in the top of the seventh, Ramirez (Phoenix, Ariz./Bakersfield Christian HS) came through with a clutch two-out double off the wall in right field to plate two runners, tying the game at 3-3.
The Trojans seemed back in business, but the Horned Frogs answered with one run on a Michael Landestoy single in the bottom of the seventh, chasing starter Kyle Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS), who took the loss, despite a solid outing. He threw seven complete innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, with four walks and five strikeouts.
The Horned Frogs broke the game open in the eighth, as Watson and Barzilli hit back-to-back solo home runs against reliever Joe Navilhon (Brentwood, Calif./Chabot College). With the score 6-3, reliever Marc Huberman (Los Angeles, Calif./Hamilton HS) entered had a tough time finding the zone, eventually giving up a 2-RBI single to Landestoy up the middle to make it 8-3.
The Trojans were retired in order in the ninth.
Reliever Jared Janczak earned the win for the Horned Frogs.
The Trojans are back in action tomorrow (Saturday), looking to even up the series. First pitch for game two at Lupton Stadium is set for 2 p.m. CT.
