CORVALLIS, Ore. - The No. 10 Trojans were uncharacteristically inconsistent on the mound and despite a late rally, were unable to top the Oregon State Beavers, who won 8-4 and took the Pac-12 series 2-1 at Goss Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans had an opportunity to jump on the Beavers early with a two-out rally in the top of the third, with bases loaded, but they were unable to bring home a run.

The Beavers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning as Hart struggled to find the zone. After a leadoff walk, a bunt single on a sac bunt attempt by Christian Donahue and a hit-by-pitch to Trever Morrison loads the bases. Hart then walks in the first run as Dane Lund draws the bases-loaded walk and a sac fly from Hendrix brings home the second runs. However, Hart does a great job of bearing down to minimize the damage, as he gets out of the inning with just the two runs.

The Trojans wasted no time answering. In the top of the fourth, the Trojans load the bases again, this time with back-to-back singles by Robinson and Flores and then a walk to Lacey with no outs. David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./The College of the Canyons) then drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home a run. AJ Ramirez (Phoenix, Ariz./Bakersfield Christian HS) delivered the sac fly and Reggie Southall (Inglewood, Calif./Serra HS) laid down the squeeze bunt to put the Trojans up 3-2. After a Beaver pitching change, Garrett Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) came through with a sac fly to put the Trojans up 4-2.

However, the Beavers answered with four of their own in the bottom of the fourth, chasing starter Mitch Hart (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS), who only lasted 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on two hits with just one strikeout and a career-high six walks. Bernardo Flores (Baldwin Park, Calif./Baldwin Park HS) entered in relief and was not his usual self, allowing one run on one hit with two walks in just a third of an inning. Brooks Kriske (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) entered to record the final out of the inning, but damage done as the Trojans trailed 6-4.

The Beavers added single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings that proved to be huge as the Trojans made a late rally to score two in the top of the ninth to make things interesting.

Bobby Stahel (Needles, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) led off the inning with a single and Stubbs followed with a double and then an error by the right fielder plated Stahel to make things 9-5. After Jeremy Martinez (Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS) drew a walk, the Beavers brought in their closer Mitch Hickey with two on and nobody out. Stubbs came home on a wild pitch from Hickey that went to the backstop to make it 9-6. However, Hickey was able to shut down the Trojans, getting a strikeout and two groundouts to end the game.

The Trojans will regroup and head home to Dedeaux Field to host Cal State Fullerton at 6 p.m. PT on Tuesday. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
