SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - AJ Ramirez keyed a big win for the No. 13 Trojans with his first collegiate grand slam as the Trojans defeated Utah 8-5 in game two of the series at Smith's Ballpark.

The win gives the Trojans the series victory as they advance to 32-13 overall and 13-7 in Pac-12 play. Ramirez (Phoenix, Ariz./Bakersfield Christian HS) was 3-for-5 at the plate with a career-high five RBI for the Trojans.

The Trojans came through with a big five-run top of the fourth inning to put them on top of the Utes (14-27, 6-14 Pac-12) and they never looked back. After Jeremy Martinez (Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS) reached on an error to start off the inning, Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS) drew a walk to put two on for Dante Flores (Norwalk, Calif./St. John Bosco HS). Flores singled up the middle to plate Martinez, and the Robinson went to third and Flores advanced to second as the centerfielder bobbled the ball. After David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./College of the Canyons) was hit by the pitch to load the bases, Ramirez blasted his team-leading sixth home run of the year, his first collegiate grand slam to left centerfield to plate four runs and put the Trojans up 5-0.

Trojan starter Kyle Twomey (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado HS) had a one-hitter going through the first four frames and held the Utes scoreless until the Utes plated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

With the score 5-1, the Trojans added on three more runs in the top of the sixth, as Ramirez had an RBI triple and Garrett Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) delivered a two-RBI double. Those runs proved to be a huge three runs for the Trojans, as the Utes came roaring back with four in the bottom of the seventh. All five runs on the day were charged to the starter Twomey, who got his seventh win on the year.

Jeff Paschke (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) entered in the seventh inning to record the final out to get the Trojans out of the jam. Kyle Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS) threw the final two innings of the game, allowing just two hits to the Utes as he collected his team-high sixth save of the year.

The Trojans will go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. MT. at Smith's Ballpark.
