LOS ANGELES - Behind a solid start from Wyatt Strahan, and a two-hit, two-RBI day from Kevin Swick, the Trojans defeated visiting Grand Canyon 6-3 at Dedeaux Field on Monday evening.

The Trojans, who were off for the past week, sent ace Strahan (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park HS) to the mound, and he secured his sixth victory of the year going 7.2 innings, allowing just three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out seven and walking three.

The Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, as Dante Flores (Norwalk, Calif./St. John Bosco) delivered a one-out double to plate the runner from first. He then came around to score himself, after he advanced to third on a ground out and took home on a wild pitch that found its way past the catcher to the backstop to take a 2-0 lead.

The Antelopes got a run back in the top of the third to make it 2-1, but the Trojans added two more in the fourth inning off a sac fly RBI from Omar Cotto Lozada (San Juan, Puerto Rico/The Bonneville School) and a squeeze bunt from Reggie Southall (Gardena, Calif./Serra HS).

The Antelopes were not going to go down easy, however, as they manufactured another run in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 4-2. The Trojans answered in the bottom of the inning, pushing the score to 6-2 on a one-out, two RBI single from Swick (La Canada, Calif./Loyola HS).

Another run came for the Antelopes in the top of the eighth inning, chasing starter Strahan, but reliever Kyle Twomey (Placentia, Calif./El Dorado HS) entered to get a strikeout for the final out of the eighth inning, and Kyle Davis (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS) secured his eighth save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. With the win, the Trojans have ensured that they will have their first winning season since 2005.

The Trojans have a quick turnaround, as they are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Cal State Fullerton for a 6 p.m. game at Goodwin Field.
