PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The Trojans closed out the 2016 season in record-setting fashion, knocking home 31 runs on 30 hits to defeat Arizona State 31-9, taking their first series over the Sun Devils on the road since 2004.

The Trojans (28-28, 15-15 Pac-12) set the program Pac-12 single-game run record with 31, just four shy of tying the overall single game record, set in 1959 against Occidental. The 30 hits on the day are tied for second in the single-game hits total for the program. That mark was also set in 1959 against Occidental. The program record is 36 hits set in 1997 against UC Santa Barbara.

12 of the 14 Trojans with plate appearances on the day had at least one hit, while 13 of 14 reached base at least once.

Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS), Frankie Rios (Lakewood, Calif./Long Beach Poly HS) and Angelo Armenta (Monrovia, Calif./Loyola HS) each had four hits on the day, with Rios and Armenta tallying a career-high six RBIs and five RBIs, respectively.

For the second-consecutive start, Sun Devil starter Eli Lingos did not record an out, as the Trojans jumped on him for four runs on four hits. The Trojans plated five in the first, seven in the second, two in the third, a season-high nine in the fourth, two in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the eighth. They scored at least one run in seven of the nine innings.

Starter Marrick Crouse (Dana Point, Calif./Dana Hills HS) went a strong five innings for the win in his second start this week. He allowed five runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts, but the Trojans jumped out to an early 25-5 lead that he was able to maintain.

Relievers Brent Wheatley (Villa Park, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS), Bernardo Flores (Baldwin Park, Calif./Baldwin Park HS), Andrew Wright (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS) and Quentin Longrie (Mission Viejo, Calif./J Serra HS) each threw one inning of relief following Crouse's five innings. The only hiccup came under Wright in the eighth inning, as the Sun Devils plated four runs (three earned) on three hits with three walks to make the final score 31-9.

Senior designated hitter/outfielder David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./College of the Canyons) went 3-for-3 with one walk and one RBI to see his season-average sit at .387, with hopes of becoming the Pac-12 batting champion.
