Hart Earns Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week Honor after Two-Hit Shutout vs. Washington State|
March 16, 2015
LOS ANGELES - Freshman Mitch Hart earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors for his stellar outing on Sunday against Washington State, the Pac-12 Conference announced today.
Hart (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) threw a gem in just his fourth collegiate start, throwing a complete-game, two-hit shutout in USC's 11-0 victory over Washington State. Hart had a no-hitter going through the first 5.1 innings, and did not allow a second hit until there were two down in the top of the ninth inning. The last time a Trojan threw a two-hitter was in 2009 when Anthony Vasquez threw one against Cal Poly. Hart also struck out five in the win, and walked just one as the Trojans took the series over visiting Washington State.
The honor is the first of Hart's young career and the 65th Pitcher of the Week honor for the Trojans. Wyatt Strahan last won the honor last April.
Hart and the No. 8-ranked Trojans will be on hand at Dedeaux Field to take on Fresno State at 6 p.m. PT on Tuesday.
