The University of Southern California boasts a unique and distinguished history of success in the Olympic games, having compiled almost three hundred medals as a school since 1904.

This makes Trojan student-athletes the perfect torch-bearers for local youth, as exemplified by the men's and women's basketball teams this May.

The student-athletes visited a youth clinic sponsored by Ready, Set, Gold!, a charitable organization founded in 2006 by the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games. The organization combats childhood obesity in the Los Angeles United School District through clinics and events with former and current Olympians and Paralympians.

The recent event, which raised awareness for the Special Olympics World Games this summer, instilled an Olympic spirit in local youth through clinics on nutrition, art, fitness and leadership. Trojan basketball stars coached youth in the fundamentals of the game, and emphasized the importance of teamwork in all aspects of life.

With Olympic-style opening and closing ceremonies bookending the day, the participants left with a gold-medal attitude.
