DeRozan And Team USA Defeat France 100-97|

Team USA and DeMar DeRozan defeated France 100-97 to advance out of Group A with a perfect 5-0 record and Dwight Lewis and Venezuela were eliminated from the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with an 81-56 loss to Australian today (Aug. 14).
DeRozan (USC 2009) scored nine points and added an assist, steal and rebound for Team USA, which saw its 12-point lead through three quarters whittled away in the final frame. France outscored USA 28-19 in the final quarter but could not get closer than the three-point final margin. USA advanced out of Group A as the only undefeated team in either group, while France fell to 3-2. USA will play the fourth-place finisher from Group B on Aug. 17. Group B will play its final round of games on Monday. Team USA has now won 22 consecutive Olympic men’s basketball games.
Lewis (USC 2007-10) and Venezuela fell behind Australia early and never pulled even. Lewis had a steal in three minutes of action for Venezuela which finished 1-4 at the Olympics. Venezuela trailed 16-6 after the first quarter and that was after scoring four points in the final 27 seconds of the frame. Trailing 16-2 late in the first quarter, Venezuela went on a 17-7 run to cut the lead to 23-19, before Australia regrouped to take a 32-25 lead into the break. Venezuela kept it close much of the third quarter, but Australia’s dominating 28-13 final frame led to the decisive margin.
