Boatwright And McLaughlin Named To Preseason Watch Lists|
Oct. 20, 2016
USC men’s basketball had two players named to national award watch list this week as forward Bennie Boatwright was named to the Karl Malone Award list today (Oct. 20) and Trojan guard Jordan McLaughlin was named to the Bob Cousy Award list earlier in the week.
The sophomore Boatwright, who averaged 11.5 points and 5.2 rebounds his first season, was one of 20 players included on the watchlist for the 2017 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award. The award is named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone. The annual honor in its third year recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men’s college basketball.
The junior McLaughlin, who led USC with a 13.4 scoring average while hitting 56 three-pointers and dishing out 160 assists, was one of 20 players chosen for the 2017 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, now in its 14th year. The award is named after Hall of Famer Bob Cousy and recognizes the top point guards in the country.
A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates for both awards.
