USC To Take On No. 20 Wichita State In AdvoCare Invitational Opener

    The USC Trojans (4-0) will face the No. 20 Wichita State Shockers (2-1) at the AdvoCare Invitational at the HP Fieldhouse in Orlando, Fla. on Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. PT. USC is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since beginning the 2000-01 campaign 8-0.

    FACING WICHITA STATE - Wichita State is 2-1 after defeating Emporia State 76-54 at home on Nov. 21. They also have an 88-63 home win over Charleston Southern and a 77-67 loss at Tulsa on Nov. 17. Ron Baker leads the Shockers with a 20.3 scoring average. The Shockers went 30-5 last season, won their league and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. They return three starters and nine lettermen from that team. USC has a 2-1 record in the all-time series against Wichita State, winning the last meeting against the then No. 8 Shockers 60-56 on Dec. 23, 2006 at the Las Vegas Classic.

    TROJANS ROLL PAST CSUN -- USC raced out to a 46-26 halftime lead and cruised to a 96-61 home victory over CSUN on Nov. 23. Jordan McLaughlin led USC with 20 points and Katin Reinhardt added 17. Nikola Jovanovic (10 points/10 rebounds) and Julian Jacobs (career highs of 10 assists/11 rebounds), both recorded double-doubles. USC’s 57 rebounds were its most in a game since 2009, its 26 assists the most in a game since 2005 and its 13 three-pointers made the most in a game since 2013.

    NEXT UP: ALABAMA OR No. 23 XAVIER - USC’s second game at the AdvoCare Invitational will be on Nov. 27 vs. either Alabama or No. 23 Xavier. The winner of the USC-WSU game will face the winner of the Alabama-Xavier game at 11:30 a.m. PT, while the other two teams will square off at 9 a.m. PT. Alabama is 2-1 with wins over Kennesaw State (77-64) and Louisiana-Lafayette (105-93) and a loss at Dayton (80-48). Retin Obasohan leads Alabama in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game. Xavier is 4-0 with wins over Miami-OH (81-72), Missouri (78-66), at Michgan (86-70) and Northern Kentucky (78-66). Six players are averaging double figures in scoring, led by Trevon Bluiett’s 14.3 points per game.

    TOP 25 TARGETS -- The last win USC had over a ranked team was when it defeated No. 11 Arizona 89-78 at home on Feb. 27, 2013.

    J-MAC IS BACK - Sophomore guard Jordan McLaughlin, a Pac-12 All-Freshman selection a year ago despite missing the final eight games due to injury, has come back from labral repair surgery to both shoulders to average 20.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in his first four games. He also has 19 assists, nine steals and a 10 three-point baskets.

    BACKCOURT BOOMING -- In the first four games, USC’s guards Jordan McLaughlin, Julian Jacobs and Elijah Stewart have combined to average 48.0 points, 16.8 rebounds and 11.8 assists per game. The trio has also averaged a combined 12.5 free throw attempts per game.

    MAKING A POINT - USC has scored 370 points in the first four games of the season, its most to start a season since scoring 406 in the first four games of the 1975 season. The last time USC scored more points in any four-game stretch was Dec. 6-20, 1995 when they tallied 378.

    LET ME ASSIST YOU - USC has averaged 6.5 more assists per game than turnovers this season (19.0 to 12.5 per game). Last season, USC averaged 12.4 assists and 14.0 turnovers.

    NICE START ON THE BOARDS -- USC has won the battle of the boards in three of the four games with an average of 48.2 per contest. USC averaged 35.9 rebounds per game last season

    STRONG IN THE CLASSROOM - Last spring the men’s basketball team set the USC record for grade-point average by the basketball roster, then during the summer it established the summer-session GPA record for the basketball program.

    TALL AND TALENTED FRESHMAN TANDEM - USC’s freshman class is comprised of forwards Bennie Boatwright and Chimezie Metu. Boatwright is 6-10 and averaged 27.8 points and 13 rebounds for Village Christian HS, en route to being named the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA Player of the Year. Metu is 6-11 and averaged 18 points and 11 rebounds for Lawndale HS, to earn the CIF Southern Section Division II Player of the Year. Despite foul trouble in his first two college games, Boatwright is averaging 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds. Metu has averaged 4.8 points and 4.3 rebounds, while leading the team with 14 blocks.

    BETTER BE READY TO ROLL -- USC is 4-0 in a stretch of seven games in 17 days to start the season. After today, USC will play two more games at the AdvoCare Invitational, Nov. 27 vs. Alabama or Xavier and Nov. 29 vs. TDB.

    EVERYONE CHIPS IN -- USC has six players averaging 10.3 or more points and seven players have averaged 4.0 rebounds or more in the first four games. USC had five players score in double figures vs. Monmouth on Nov. 16, the first time it had accomplished the feat since five scored in double figures in a 78-62 win vs. Boston College on Dec. 8, 2013.
