LOS ANGELES – Men’s basketball guard Jordan McLaughlin and women’s swimmer Andrea Kropp were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 2-7, on Monday, Dec. 8.
USC CREDIT UNION MEN’S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jordan McLaughlin put on showcase at the Galen Center as the Trojans beat Loyola Marymount followed by an impressive win over Utah State. On Wednesday, Dec. 3 against the Lions, the freshman guard dished out seven assists and led the team in scoring with 18 points. McLaughlin also had three steals, which contributed to USC’s 17 fast-break points in the 77-61 win over LMU.
On Sunday, Dec. 7 against the Aggies, McLaughlin was back at it again; this time he recorded a career-high 21 points, making five 3-pointers. The Trojans wound up beating Utah State 89-84, marking their fourth straight victory and sixth of the season. The high-flying Trojans are next scheduled to face off against Army on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Galen Center.
Also nominated for men’s student-athlete of the week honors: Kostas Genidounias (water polo) and Nikola Jovanovic (basketball).
USC CREDIT UNION WOMEN’S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Senior All-American Andrea Kropp put on an impressive performance at the Open Texas Invite. On the first day of competition, Kropp posted a PR in the 200y IM clocking in at 1:56.99 to claim second in the A final. The senior swimmer would also team up with fellow Trojans’ Kendyl Stewart, Kasia Wilk and Hannah Weiss in the 200y medley relay to win with a time of 1:37.11, an NCAA A cut.
On the last day of events, Kropp posted a 2:09.82 to take second in the 200y breast. However, her prelim time of 2:09.32 was the fastest this season for the Women of Troy. The Trojans’ next meet is against Wisconsin on Jan. 9 at Uytengsu Aquatic Center.
Also nominated for women’s student-athlete of the week honors: Ebony Nwanebu (volleyball).
The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Alec Koondel. Student assistant voters include Charlotte Adlam, Taiu Kunimoto, Nikki Borchard, Andrew McKagan, Eike Daube, Tera Novy, Carlene Jones, Max Schwartz, Gaby Smotrys, Aubrey Kragen, and intern Katie Ryan.
