    Junior Matt Giles, an Australian native and a two-time All-American, played in four events in the 2009 fall. His best effort came at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, where he tied for 10th and had a second-round 67.

    Giles had a dynamic 2009 sophomore season, earning GCAA Ping All-American first team and GCAA PING All-Pacific Region honors and was named the 2009 Pac-10 Co-Golfer of the Year ... He was among 20 players named to the 2009 All-Nicklaus Team and was a semifinalist for the 2009 The Ben Hogan Award ... Giles spent much of the season as's top-ranked collegiate player thanks to seven top 7 finishes and nine in the top 11. He was top 7 in the first five the events of the season. He was fourth at the 2008 UCF Collegiate Invitational (1-under 215) and the 2009 USC Collegiate Invitational (6-under 207), tied for fourth at the 2008 CordeValle Collegiate (2-under 214) and the U.S. Intercollegiate (8-under 202) and tied for seventh at the 2009 UH Hilo Invitational ... At the 2008 Western Refining College All-American Golf Classic (a non-team event), Giles tied for fourth ... He led USC at the 2008 NCAA West Regional with a 7-under 209, including a first-round 65. At the 2009 NCAA Championships, he tied for 30th to help USC advance out of stroke play and into the final eight-team match play portion of the championships ... USC's leader in stroke average (71.35) and rounds in the 60s (10), he was also named to the Golf Australia national team.

    Giles, who joined the Trojans for the start of the 2008 spring semester, posted six top 27 finishes in eight starts en route to All-American honorable mention honors ... He was also a 2008 All-Pac-10 second team pick and a GCAA PING All-Pacific Region selection ... Giles posted a season-best second at the USC Collegiate with a 6-over 219 (68-77-74), helping Troy to the team title ... He opened his Trojan career with a tie for 20th at the UH-HILO Invitational, posting a 68 first round and a 67 third round ... He tied for 11th at the Pac-10 Championships (67-77-75-75-294) ... He finished with six rounds in the 60s as a freshman and a stroke average of 73.15, fourth best on the team.

    Giles prepped at Caringbah High in New South Wales, Australia, where he was an accomplished amateur ... In 2006 in California, Giles won the World Junior Golf championship by eight strokes and was third at the event in 2007 ... He was a member of the NSW Junior state team from 2004-2007 and in 2007 was a member of the NSW U23 state team ... He also captained the 2006-2007 Australian U19 Teams and was third at the 2007 Pacific-Northwest Amateur ... Played in the 2006 Australian Open as an amateur.
