Sophomores Rory Hie and Jamie Lovemark tied for fifth individually and three Trojans fired sub-70 rounds to lead the USC men's golf team to a second-place tie on the final day of the 18-team, 54-hole UH-Hilo Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa (Hawaii) G.C. on Friday (Feb. 8).

USC's final-round 272 was low for the day as the Trojans finished with a three-day 816 (274-270-272), tying Arizona State. Stanford (813) took first.

Hie, who fired a USC school-record 62 on the par-70 course on Thursday, finished with a third-round 68 for a three-day 9-under 201. Lovemark, who began the day tied for first after a 66 and 65, was par on Friday to finish at his 201. Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard won the individual medal at 13-under 197.

Not only has USC now finished in the top 3 in its past four outings, it has featured two players tied for ninth or better in each of the last four events.

Freshman Matthew Giles (68-73), playing in his first event as a Trojan, moved up to a tie for 20th at 208 (68-73-67) while freshman Tim Sluiter moved from a tie for 70th to a tie for 39th at 2-over 212 (74-71-67), his final round a USC best for him. Junior Tom Glissmeyer finished tied for 47th at 3-over 213 (69-72-72).
