Crocker 68, Jin 69 Propel USC to Southern Highlands First Round Lead|

Junior Sean Crocker fired a 4-under 68 to lead four Trojans in the top 12 as the No. 7 USC men’s golf team took the first-round lead at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, Monday (March 6), at the Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas.
USC, the event’s defending champion, combined for a 10-under 278 for a three-stroke lead. Stanford is second at 7-under 281 while Pepperdine is third at 6-under. The field features 10 top 25 team, including six in the top 11.
Crocker, who has two top 10s this year and six in the top 16, is tied for third at 4-under, two back of first, after his five birdie first round. Freshman Cheng Jin, coming off a season-best effort last week at the Southwestern Invitational, remained hot with a 3-under 69 for a tie for fifth.
Sophomore Justin Suh is tied for sixth at 2-under 70 while senior Rico Hoey, working on a five-tournament streak of top 10 finishes, is tied for 12th at 1-under 71. Senior Andrew Levitt finished in a tie for 50th at 3-over 75.
Second round action begins at 9 a.m., though USC’s first tee time isn’t until 10:40 a.m.
