Trojans 5th After The Goodwin 2nd Round

    Freshman Rico Hoey moved into a tie for second while junior Anthony Paolucci is tied for sixth, the duo leading the No. 23 USC men's golf team into fifth after two rounds of The Goodwin at the Stanford G.C. on Saturday (March 29).

    The Trojans finished the second round at 3-over 563 (278-285) and are 14 back of first-place Stanford (549). UCLA is second at 5-under 555 while Oregon is third (558) and Washington is fourth (559).

    Hoey followed his 4-under first round with a 1-under second and stands at 5-under 135 (66-69). His second round featured four birdies, including one on 16 to get under for the day. Hoey, seeking his sixth top 7 finish, now has a team-best 11 rounds in the 60s this year, including an active streak of four in a row.

    Paolucci, after his fifth top 10, moved up the leaderboard and into a tie for sixth at 2-under 138 (70-68) after combining a 1-over front 9 with a 3-under back. In fact, he was 4-under over the final 12 holes. His round was his eighth under 70 this year, second best on the team.

    Junior Paul Smith is tied for 38th at 4-over 144 (71-73), junior Eric Sugimoto is tied for 49th at 6-over 146 (71-75) and senior Jeffrey Kang is tied for 53rd at 7-over 147 (71-76).
